How to Match Your Body with Your Fashion Sense

Mastering your personal style is harder than it seems. It’s not just about buying the season’s trendiest clothes. You have to consider what types of clothing make you look and feel your best. It is almost always preferable to wear something old and flattering than to wear something stylish that doesn’t show off your figure’s best features. Looking good is always in style. Wearing the latest designs with no regard for your own body is how one gets the dreaded “fashion victim” label.

Find Inspiration

The easiest way to narrow down your options is to mimic celebrities and influencers whose body types resemble yours. Choose three or four photos of those influencers featuring outfits that you can see yourself wearing. Try not to pick outfits that depict your “fantasy self”; be realistic about the types of clothes you would actually wear in your everyday life.

You might also want to consider how conservative your workplace is, as you wouldn’t want to splurge on a new wardrobe that you can only wear on weekends.

Start Shopping

After you’ve picked the looks you want to mimic, it’s time for the fun part: going shopping. If the idea of walking into a store and seeing a sea of options makes you anxious, browse online first. Some people enjoy spending hours perusing the racks and trying things on, but it’s okay if you don’t care for it. You can still have good style even if you’re not a stereotypical shopaholic.

If you’re taking your cues from online influencers, you should be able to easily find out where they shop. Start with those websites.

Be Patient

Don’t be frustrated if you don’t immediately find exactly what you’re looking for. A little-known component of good style is having the patience to hunt down the perfect pieces. You might spend hours picking through the deepest pages on a brand’s website and only find one garment that you like. That’s how you know that you’re being a smart shopper. Developing personal style is a creative venture that takes time and effort.

Look Past Your Wardrobe

In the meantime, there are other things you can do to lift your self-esteem. A new haircut can make you feel like a whole new person. A massage can relieve tension you might not realize you’re carrying. If you’re looking for a fast, long-lasting self-esteem boost, you may want to consider checking into a medical spa for a facelift or similar surgery.

You also need to try not to be frustrated when things don’t fit or look right at first. Save your receipts, and don’t be afraid to return the items that you don’t like. Once you’ve learned to focus on the styles that flatter you the most, you’ll find that you enjoy shopping and experimenting with even bolder styles.
