How to choose a manicure set

Regular nail care is a story about aesthetics and health. It is not enough to visit a manicure specialist every two to four weeks. It is important not to forget to take care of the cuticles and the nail plate at home.

To make the result happy, you need to do a manicure with high-quality beauty tools. If you have a good mechanical set at home, you can do trimmed manicure yourself and even children.

Pay attention to the package

A manicure set can consist of 2-10 tools. If you buy the largest one, chances are that many of the tools you will never use. Practice shows that houses are most often needed:

  • nippers;
  • scissors for cutting the free edge of the nail plate. They cut smoothly and protect the plate from chipping;
  • cuticle scissors - they can be replaced with nippers;
  • nailfile;
  • spatula for cleaning the area under the nail plate.

Most people get by with this set of tools. I recommend buying a set of three or four accessories and supplementing it as needed. For example, you can buy cuticle nippers or tweezers.

Determine what material the tools are made of

The quality of the material directly affects the durability of the tools, as well as the convenience of their use.

Scissors and wire cutters  must be made of stainless steel. The quality of steel is determined by its carbon content: the more carbon, the harder the scissors. It is very good if the manufacturer of the manicure set indicates what type of steel they use. So, the most successful material for professional manicure scissors is an alloy marked 30 × 13. The first number indicates the percentage of carbon and the second indicates the percentage of chromium.

The harder the steel, the better the sharpening holds on it. Other common steel grades: 65×13, 95×18.

Nail files  are made from different materials.

Metal nail files are inexpensive and can be used for several years. However, it must be remembered that a metal file can ruin the nails and provoke their delamination. Such files are best used during a pedicure and for the correction of extended nails.

With glass files, you can carefully correct the nail plate and not be afraid of a negative effect. However, glass files are fragile - they can break if dropped.

Ceramic tools are considered the most gentle. With it, you can carefully handle the free edge and the skin around the plate. A ceramic file is not suitable for working with extended nails.

Understand how abrasive a nail file should be

Another important criterion when choosing a file is the abrasiveness of the material. There are different options for spraying: silicon carbide, diamond, corundum. The graininess of the abrasive indicates the rigidity of the file and is measured in conventional units - grits.

Remember: the higher the grit number, the softer the file has, and vice versa.

An 80-180 grit file is suitable for shaping or trimming nails made of acrylic or other artificial materials. They are thicker than natural ones, so they require more effort to process.

The 100-240 grit option is suitable for working with natural nails. These files usually have two types of abrasive - one for shaping and trimming and one for grinding and smoothing.

240-600 grit product is suitable for nails prone to breakage, brittleness, delamination and thinning. With the help of such files, you can quickly and carefully give your nails the desired shape.

The 600-2400 grit model is the best option for grinding and polishing nails.

Option for 1000-4000 grit - these files are coated with ultra-fine abrasive and are needed to add shine.

What affects blade sharpening

Particular attention when choosing cutting manicure tools should be given to their sharpness and quality of sharpening. Manicure tools are subject to two types of sharpening: manual and conveyor factory.

Hand sharpening is preferred. It allows you to achieve the necessary sharpness, keeps for a long time, eliminates the appearance of burrs on the metal. It must, of course, be borne in mind that hand-sharpened tools cannot be cheap.

Determine if scissors are right for you

When choosing manicure scissors, you need to focus on the thickness of the nail plate: the thicker it is, the wider the blade should be. When choosing scissors to remove the cuticle, one should also take into account its thickness: the thinner the cuticle, the thinner the blades of the scissors should be and the sharper their tips.

You should check how tightly the scissor blades are closed in the closed position. An important factor is also how comfortable it is to hold the tools in your hand.

What you need to know about the clipper

A nail clipper, or nail clipper, is one of the must-have tools in a manicure set. Nippers cut nails by hitting the upper and lower blades against each other. When choosing this tool, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • blade opening . To work with thin nails, a model that opens up to 2 mm is suitable. For a pedicure or treatment of thick fingernails, it is better to choose an option with an indicator of up to 8.5 mm;
  • blade width . It is selected depending on the size of the nails and can be from 9 to 13 mm;
  • material . It is important that he keeps sharpening. Only blades made of quality carbon steel can stay sharp for a long time, so special attention must be paid to the material.

I do not recommend buying cheap manicure tools. The low cost indicates that the clippers are made of mild steel, which quickly dulls and breaks nails.

Find the right case

If the tools are in a case, there will be less risk of accidentally losing or breaking them. A high-quality cover protects against moisture, friction, and other factors. When manicure tools are in a case, it is more convenient to take them with you on trips. The most reliable options are hard cases made of leather or plastic.
