The star cast of ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ visited Amritsar for promotions ahead of its Friday release. Actors Jimmy Shergil, Abhay Deol, Diana Penty and Ali Fazal all looked ‘happy’ as they shared jokes about the film’s subject of a runaway bride and said they were expecting it to do ‘well’ at the box office.

“Amid all the superficial formula ingredients like good music, dance numbers, amazing locations and talented star cast, it has a good script and a treatment that has probably never been presented,” said Abhay Deol. Agreed Penty, who has returned after ‘Cocktail’ with a chirpy, outspoken Punjabi avatar, “I Loved the entire experience as I play a typical Amritsari girl, who speaks her mind and got to have fun on screen. I don’t really care about the number game at box office, but I hope that the audience likes the film.” Penty said that she did a lot of homework for her role as she didn’t relate to character in real life. “I am a lot different than Happy, my character as I am not an extrovert and loud like her. I had to really learn the little things that make you a Punjabi, like eating local food at dhabas, observing the fashion and body language of Punjabi girls, getting the diction right. So, it’s quite special for me.”

The film has been helmed by Anand L Rai and Krushika Lulla, who were also present along with the star cast. Shot in Amritsar and around the border areas, ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ is a story of a runaway bride, who finds herself across the border and actor Ali Fazal says that it’s a complete comedy caper. Ali plays one of the main leads in the film, who is in love with Penty’s character. “In the film, I am also the one running after Happy,” he jokes. The team also visited Wagah Border, where they attended retreat ceremony. “It was a phenomenal atmosphere and we all had fun with cheering crowd,” said Jimmy Shergill, who plays the third male protagonist. Jimmy will be seen again pairing with Anand L Rai after the successful ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’.

At a time when box-office clashes and huge numbers define a movies’ success, Anand L Rai said that he isn’t a part of the number game. “I don’t make a movie for numbers; instead I make a movie for my audience. The only reaction I really care about is from my audience and that’s when I know that I have made a good film.” He is the co-producer of the film along with Krushika Lulla.
