A seductive Arabic script or a chocolate scorpion emerging from a tanned ankle can both create a little mystery and intrigue n’est-ce pas? There is nothing more emotive than a little ink art. They are sexy….they are trashy….they are shock value….they are a symbolic reminder of a life changing event. On the flipside there's something tragic about Pammy's forty-something barbed wire band. It's perhaps the wrinkly premonition of a crinkly Tweety Pie that disturbs me the most.Call me prim but there’s something too binding to a lifetime shared with a mark. It’s akin to marriage – one hell of a commitment. It’s not like you can change your mind half way through an inking of the Last Supper.A tattoo that transcends time and trends is like a Rubix cube, troubling and quite probably, totally impossible. Although I usually tend to hunt for the international among the local, recently I've come across a designer who is both local and international, meaning that the her London location would be considered local (seeming that London central is around forty/fifty minutes from me) yet the concept behind her designs would be considered international in regards to the fact that this particular designer tends to dabble in that of the tribal, mixing a series of minerals; that of which include lava rock and pyrite, all held together on a wire/synthetic hair/hosiery roped chain. This collection in particular launched Maria into unfamiliar territory as she broadened her niche from women's jewelry alone into that of unisex/swap-able jewelry. Some of you may be thinking "swap-able? what on earth does that mean?"and to clarify, the concept behind Maria's Two Planets collection is that each piece is unisex and allows both boys and girls to swap their jewelry, without breaking a rather stereotypical theory in regards to the fact that some consider beads feminine and chains masculine, etc.

The look book which accompanied this collection was the initial feature which lead me to contact Maria, as I'm sure the majority of you know, I'm a firm follower of high-quality imagery and admire any designer who believes in the presentation of their work as much as the design concept itself. Tribal tattooing is such an ancient practice so why is it still so damn modern?■ BexBella
