I’d say pretty important. It helps determine how others see us, how we carry ourselves, and most importantly how we see ourselves. Over the years I’ve come to find how one obtains self-confidence varies from person to person. Some people attribute life experiences or personal accolades as a means to feel confident. Others will attribute the opinions of others to determine their level of self-confidence. For me, it’s a combination of things, and one big factor not mentioned that gives me a high level of confidence is clothing.

That’s not to say that my achievements and the positive remarks of others don’t help determine my self-confidence because they do in the big picture, but there’s smaller things that I can do on the day to day that give me that extra boost, and these are pieces of clothing that I call my “Powerdrobe” (Powerful Wardrobe). Some of these powerdrobe items are pieces of clothing I’ve had over the years, some more sentimental than others, but all equally important in how they make me feel. When I put them on, they create this feeling as if I can conquer the world and nothing can bring me down, and who wouldn’t want to feel like that?

Listed below are a few pieces of my Powerdrobe that give me that extra boost that we all often need on a tough day to make us see that Lion in the mirror when we may feel like a little kitty cat.

1) Star Wars Vintage Tee

There's something about wearing what you're most comfortable in that makes you feel awesome! This is my go-to-basic lounge around shirt. When I wear it, I feel like my true self, without the makeup, the hair, and the put-together outfit, I just feel like me. I grew up watching sci-fi flicks with my dad so they've always held a special spot with me and today are a guilty pleasure of mine since most of my friends think that kind of stuff is strange.

I tend to flee to this shirt when I'm at home and since I do a large chunk of work at home, when I am on those conference calls or working on a long document, you better believe I'm gonna feel relaxed and ready to kick whatever task is at hand's butt! You can pick up one of these radical Star Wars tee's here.

2) Pointelle Hem Pullover Sweater

This Pointelle Hem Pullover Sweater is my favorite sweater to wear when I go out with some friends. I think it's a good blend of sass and class. A small midriff exposure in the front with the back covered allows me to show that I am confident in my body without over exposing it and hearing the tiresome cries of how I want attention; I dress how I dress for me, not anyone else. I also like that it keeps my arms covered but allows me to breathe so I'm neither hot nor cold, just right. The fact that it's black also helps since I have a tendency to be a clumsy. When I'm wearing a white shirt, I always worry about if I'm going to get it dirty and end up over-analyzing my body movements and end up knocking something on me. Since it's black, I worry less about if I will get it dirty, and in turn I'm far less clumsy so it makes me feel much more confident in my motor skills when I wear it :). You can pick one of these cute sweaters up here.

3) The Stockholm Skirt

Skirts are fun, especially the Stockholm skirt! Growing up, I always associated skirts with being a princess and royalty, and that's carried with me over the years. When I wear a skirt nowadays, I feel like the Queen Bee in charge and that definitely helps when I'm at various networking or social events. In the past, I've worn slacks and when I was approached/approaching other people, I would find myself nervous, I'd look down at my legs and sometimes choke up or trip over my words and make a fool of myself. I remembered when I was a little girl and I'd wear my older sister's skirts and pretend I was the princess of the kingdom and how much fun it was, and thought what the heck, I'll wear a skirt to the next function and see if I have that same level of confidence/fun. When I'd look down at my legs, all I saw was the Princess of the Kingdom and I relaxed and everything else came naturally. Since then, skirts have been socializing go-to-bottoms. It also doesn't hurt that I think pretty highly of my legs, but why shouldn't I when I'm in the gym 5-6 days a week? :D You can pick up the Stockholm skirt here.

4) The Disco Pant

One thing's for certain, in recent years, curvier and plus size fashion & women have been receiving a lot more positive acclaim than in the past, and that is music to my ears. Women in my family have always had long legs and wider hips, so when I was younger, finding clothes that fit my frame that were cute was kind of difficult. I found myself wearing some items having to say "Well it was this or nothing." Luckily today, that isn't the case, and disco pants are a favorite of mine. They're for more casual wear; see my Star Wars shirt above, but I feel like they're sleek enough to wear both at home or out for the evening. They make my legs and curves look awesome and make me feel like a lil' Kim Kardashian :). You can get a pair of awesome disco pants here.

5) Michael Kors Wesley Boot

If there's one thing I truly love..it's boots! Whether it's Uggs, Booties, Flats, Heels, Long, Short, I love them all! One brand in particular that I can't get enough of is Michael Korrs. They've got so many cute styles. Being that I am a big sci-fi fan, when I wear boots it makes me feel kind of a space explorer..well a stylish one :). These Wesley Boots in particular I love because their countless straps, heel, and long length make me feel extra feisty and look unique, much like my personality, so they accent who I am perfectly. I tend to wear these when I'm out and about and going to be trying something new or traveling. When venturing to a new place that is unfamiliar, it always helps to be wearing my favorite boots that make me feel like I'm a space explorer and nothing can stand in my way! You can pick up a pair of these slick boots here.

So these are 5 pieces that are part of my "Powerdrobe" collection that I tend to gravitate to. They help boost my confidence and make me feel awesome! Thanks so much for reading and if you have any pieces of clothing that give you that power boost, share in the comments, I'd love to check them out!

Top 4 Picks from the Little Mistress Spring Collectionhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/top-4-picks-from-the-little-mistress-spring-collection2013-02-22T15:27:08.000Z2013-02-22T15:27:08.000ZSami Brownhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/SamiBrown

As we make our way through the seasons, we are faced with new trends and styles to either follow or avoid. Whether you are one for following the crowd or like to add your own twist to the latest trends, this spring is set to have a tonne of endearing cuts, colours and styles to play around with.

One of the hottest young designer brands at the moment has got to be Little Mistress. Since the brand has expanded its collections across the globe to the US, just about every young fashionista will have heard of them. Here I am going to share my 4 favourite designs from the brands new arrivals for spring 2013.

This one shoulder Little Mistress dress features a stunning embellished waist, ruched upper and contrasting fabrics. I love this dress because the sheer, chiffon fabric and embellished waistband will provide a flattering look to any figure. The cut out, embellished shoulder strap also adds extra luxury to the dress. Little Mistress stock plenty of fit and flare dresses similar to this one on their website.

Monochrome is going to be massive this spring so this tile print bodycon dress in black and white will be right on trend. The contrasting side panels will create the illusion of a slimmer waist and feminine curves, making it great for girls lacking a curvier physique. For added detail, the dress has an exposed zip at the back. I like this dress because it is versatile enough to wear for evening or day time wear.

I love this Little Mistress dress because it offers something you don’t see very often anymore, that being a halter neck. This navy and cream embellished dress offers the signature Little Mistress skirt and a ruched bustier. The cream crisscross embellishment to the waist gives the dress more definition, drawing attention to the smallest part of the wearer’s body.

Dresses aren’t the only garments Little Mistress sells; they also stock a range of evening tops, leggings and more. Last season we seen a lot of women sporting disco pants and this spring they are set to be a hit once again. These black disco pants are practically an essential for every ladies wardrobe this season and will keep your legs warm and covered until the summer arrives.

Disco Queen.https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/disco-queen2012-05-19T06:21:16.000Z2012-05-19T06:21:16.000ZKhola Waddy-Joneshttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/KholaWaddyJones

With the passing of disco diva Donna Summer, I started thinking of the style she helped make so iconic. In all honesty, I'm not a huge MAC fan, but I really wanted a bright bubble gum pink lipstick, so I bought 'strayin' from the collection. Very happy with this purchase. Then I headed down to Sephora and picked up some Vincent Longo goodies that were on clearance. Why are they phasing out this brand? I love his stuff! Oh well. I ended up falling in love with the Nars 'hungry heart' blush duo too. Nars makes THEE BEST blushes, hands down. Maybe I'll pick this up for myself today.... I deserve it! I have heard so much about Disco from my Mom. My grandmother was a 70's girl and she was one of the selected people that gained entrance into the famous Studio 54.According to what my mom tells me, it was one of the best times in fashion when it came to her elders. She said that my grandmother would wear the halter top body suits with the wrap around skirt and dance the hustle. Everyone was big into glitter and going to the roller skating ring meant that you had to have the gold colored, skin tight jeans and the sequined tube top.Oh, yes, the Disco Era was a hot era. I mean come on; if you could be fly in polyester then it had to be a great moment. There was a lot of freedom during that time and people were having fun. Of course there was a down side to it as well, but I wanted to relive the fashion era that is making a come back. You want to know how you can incorporate the look without looking cheesy. Well, have no fear because if it was an era that Disco Stu can continue to claim, then so can you!I talk to stylist/designer Angela Edmunds about the look and she gave some hot ideas.Well, I hope you enjoy the show and be sure to subscribe, be a friend, leave your comments and definitely feedback!Attention: We are always looking for designers who would like to share their art with the YHC audience.

Anything to get me outta the house for a bit. Maybe a lil' retail therapy! Went to the mall the other day to scope out the new MAC / Hello Kitty collection. Haha.xoxo, SarahJayne
Check out the Young, Hip & Chic's New Webisode focused on the Disco Era!!!https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/check-out-the-young-hip-amp2009-01-25T20:27:29.000Z2009-01-25T20:27:29.000ZYoung, Hip & Chichttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/YoungHipChic
Hey Everyone:I have to admit that I had a great time doing this short but sweet show.
