Fashion meets technology at Vidya awards

The Vidya Award has taken place for the second time - and this year's winners have already been selected. The official prize-giving ceremony was held at the recent Texprocess in Frankfurt.

The idea behind the Vidya Award is to encourage schools and universities (which have their own Textile and Apparel Technology departments) to learn how to blaze a new trail in 3D product development and to visualize and simulate the garments at a very early stage of development.

The simulation software Vidya enables the visualization of the optimal design draft - and it's always based exactly on the original 2D pattern data. Vidya also has an Avatar Studio - and it doesn't only simulate patterns and fabrics - the Avatar Studio also creates the best possible simulations of the human being.

This year's competition task was to develop a basic pattern in any CAD system and simulate and optimize the size & fit on a SizeGERMANY avatar in Vidya.

The Kerschensteiner School and the University of Niederrhein took part, with a total of 16 participants. The first prize of €1,000 was won by Carina Scheifele. Her dress is very classic with a pencil skirt and neckholder - and details like the side slit, the asymmetrical hem and low-cut back were interesting aspects. Aurelie Harazim won the 2nd prize of €500. Technically, her dress is very sophisticated, thanks to her very successful simulations of the flounces and her combination of materials.

Both winners come from the Kerschensteiner School in Stuttgart - and they have produced dresses with perfect, reality-matching simulation.
