The Auto Industry may receive $15 Billion of tax payer money to get thru a few months. As of only a few weeks ago, they were asking for $25 billion, and this week it appears they may be getting $15 billion. In the end, who knows what they will actually receive... My question is, should the government (the tax payer) provide the auto companies $15 billion to get them thru a short time period, or is the nation better served by giving the fashion industry $15 billion to create new jobs in the fashion industry. Isn’t it true that we can hire more people in the “fashion industry” then could possibly be hired in the “auto industry”??? You do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand that everyone wears clothing… (well, most people that I hang out with..) However, not everyone drives a car. By the shear number of clothes in demand in comparison to the number of cars in demand, it is evident the world needs more clothing produced then cars produced. Hence, if we had factories in the USA making our clothes, the fashion industry could hire more people then the auto industry could hire… To help illustrate this point, I have actually written an article today on this subject. I must warn you that the article is a bit boring. In addition, the truth of the matter is that I created the dollar amounts listed in my article out of thin air. I used what I thought to be fair estimates (to the high side), but in all fairness, I could be a few zillion dollars off the mark... Unfotunately, I am not clever enough (nor do I have the time) to properly research the subject. However, lack of time and significant lack of intelligence, could not stop me from trying to make the FASHION INDUSTRY sound more important then the Auto Industry. Well, I never said that I was not bias toward the fashion industry... You can read the rest of the article at Has the Fashion Industry Devised a Plan to Provide Fifty Thousand New Jobs? If you missed it, you can also read my article Does The Textile and Apparel Industry Offer Sympathy to U.S. Automakers. That article I had written November 22nd. At that time, the big three USA automakers were online for $25 billion. If you have any thoughts on the subject, you are welcome to list your opinions in the comments section below. However, please keep in mind that this is a fashion network. We all think that the auto industry is very important to the economy, but you better be on board with the fact that we are the "fashion industry".
