Let's accept it! We have all experienced the heartbreaks that come with throwing away the swimsuit that we enjoyed last summer. And the worst part, it has become your favorite go-to piece at the beach.

The discoloration, wrapped padding, loose threads and the sagging elastic don’t make for a good-looking swimsuit. And things like saltwater, chlorine, sunscreen stamps, and numerous wears, makes even the best swimwear, the worst one.

Well, all swimsuits do retire after some time, but some game-changing hacks can get you most out of your wear. If you want to use them for a long time, here are some expert tips to follow:

Do Check The Fabric:

When shopping for new swimwear, do keep a look on the type of fabric. Swimsuits with spandex and similar materials retain their shape for a longer time. It also prevents the gear from sagging and loosing. Also, if you are participating with some girls swimwear competition games or is going to spend your maximum time in the pool, pick a chlorine-resistant swimsuit.

Further, fabrics like terry, crochet, and velvet are also making their way to the swimwear gear, so be cautious when picking them. These materials don’t offer much elasticity.

Watch How You Treat It:

Pool sides and decks often have rough surfaces to prevent from the accidental slip off. So, if you are sitting on such surface, keep a towel underneath you. Even if the surface looks smooth, it can damage your swimsuit.

So, use fabric or towel if you are lying on the deck side. Also, be careful when coming out of the hot tub or an inside pool.

Do A Shower:

Before you move into the home with your swimsuit, rinse out all the debris and sand from  it, and they pack. Go to shower or find a sink to clean the salt, sand, and chlorine from the suit.

Give Them A Soft Hand-Wash:

After spending a whole day on the beach, it's important to clean your swimsuit as soon as possible. This even becomes more important if you are in the saltwater or chlorine water for a long time. Do not machine wash, instead, wash it with hands by using laundry soap. Scrub off the areas like underwear, straps, waistband and other stained parts of the swimsuit. However, if you are doing a machine wash, make sure to use cold water only. Also, use bleach-free, mild detergents to keep them clean and dirt-proof.

Avoid Hot Soaking And Hot Tubs:

Hot tubs can limit the lifespan of a swimsuit, and can fade or stretch-out it very quickly, so, avoid them. If possible, wear an older suit in the hot tub or pick the suit that is made from the polyester or chlorine-resistant fabric.

Do Not Use Dryers:

Of course, dryers make the job easy, but the heat from the dryers can damage the swimsuit. It can kill the elasticity and can make the fabric shrinking. So, the simplest way to dry your swimwear I by laying it flat to air dry it. Do not:

  • Wring out the swimsuit as it can stress the fabric
  • Leave it in the direct sunlight, as it may cause color fade

Fix All The Loose Stitches:

If you ever notice some loose threads here and there, fix them immediately. As loose knots and stitches can break the fabric.

Unpack Swimsuit As Soon As You Return:

While throwing a wet-suit into a plastic bag might be the easiest thing, bring out as soon as you return from the trip. Resist the urge of packing a wet suitcase in the luggage as it will damage not only the shape of the suit but can also damage its fibers.

Pack Correctly During The Off-Season:

Like other summer stuff, you would like to vacuum-pack your swimsuit, but it can damage the elasticity of the suit. So, to store it for the season, just keep them in your closet at one side. Do a couple of shifts in the folds after some time.

And with all the above tips, get out on the beach and splash your happiness knowing that your swimsuit will look the same for years.
