Specialists of the State Inspectorate for Small Boats (GIMS) conduct intensive patrolling of the water bodies of the Sverdlovsk Region. EMERCOM employees pay special attention to places of mass access to ice - there are 55 of them in the Middle Urals.
The reason for the increased patrolling of water bodies in the Middle Urals during the New Year holidays was the sad statistics published on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies in the Sverdlovsk Region: "In 2019, 66 people drowned in the rivers, ponds, and lakes of the Sverdlovsk Region, 11 of which were children." The department's message also tells about where raids have already been carried out in the region: "Preventive raids have also been carried out at the Verkh-Isetsky pond in Yekaterinburg, where ice cover has not yet been established in the entire water area. EMERCOM employees explained the safety rules on ice to the townspeople at the water area of the Lower Pond of the Bobrovka River in the town of Artyomovsky, where they paid special attention to children spending their free time near the shore and on piers. In the city of Irbit on the river, which gave the name to the city, the GIMS specialists instructed the fishermen who went out on the ice for the catch."
Rescuers remind Sverdlovsk residents about the rules of safe behavior on ice: you always need to put on a life safety jacket and take a stick with you, which you can check the path: "If the stick falls through, the snow around is wet, walking it is dangerous." The Ministry of Emergency Situations also recommends avoiding the places where rivers flow into the river, water discharges from plants, vegetation and large piles of snow - there the ice is thinner.
