Kevin Hart, Saoirse Ronan, Eddie Redmayne make fashion statements

The #OscarsSoWhite debate just might be the elephant in the corner at The 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles, but Kevin Hart is wearing his views firmly on his sleeve.

The actor and comedian, 36, shared a shot of him and his fiancee Eniko Parrish wearing matching all black ensembles and made no bones about the side he was firmly backing, hashtagging: "All black for a reason".

"Sheeeessshhh..... Dress 2 impress with my partner in crime!!! #Oscars #AllBlackForaReason #MeAndMyRib #comedicrockstarshit #DopePic," he said.

The Oscars has been accused of racism as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not nominate any people of colour for the last two years, but they have promised to change, vowing to double the number of women and minority members by 2020.

All eyes were on Oscars host Chris Rock, who didn't follow suit with his dress in a white tux jacket, but instead with his introduction at the Dolby Theatre stage.

"Is Hollywood racist? Ya, damn right it is racist … But things are changing, we have a black Rocky this year," he said.

But Hart is not the only one taking a stand with their dress at the most glamorous night of the year in Hollywood.

Saoirse Ronan, 21, best actress nominee for her role in Brooklyn, wore emerald green in a nod to her Irish roots.

The proud Irish woman opted for a chic, custommade Calvin Klein sequin piece that showed off her enviable figure to perfection. She paired the look with matching eye shadow and soft waves in her blonde tresses for a perfect score of 10.

Sure to get her on Best Dressed lists everywhere, E! and Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic said she "loved it", while Kris Jenner, who was appearing on an E! fashion panel, said she wished she could squeeze her "top half" into a CK piece just like Saoirse.

Best actor nominee for The Danish Girl, Eddie Redmayne, proudly showed off his British roots, and possibly made an LGBT statement, in an Alexander McQueen-designed black velvet tuxedo.

With no stylist to help him make the right choice awards night after awards night, the 34-year-old was the standout in his category – and that's saying something in the company of Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender, Bryan Cranston and Matt Damon.
