Dries Van Noten: Does the Denim Right

Denims comeback has been anything but subtle in the world of fashion and designers have been gravitating in it's direction. We all have loved the staple denim jean from decade to decade without feeling the need to let it go, but will we put the traditional boot cut, skinny jean, or bell bottom on hold? It is hard to say as I can't imagine denim jeans ever leaving the picture entirely, but I do predict a drift that takes us away from the traditional jean and brings us to something providing us with a bit more comfort, which in turn brings a bit more confidence. When I say this I am speaking more so from a woman's perspective because it is partially coming from my own experience with jeans. I have come to the conclusion that it is actually quite rare that someone is happy when they put on a pair of jeans. Generally, jeans bring attention to parts of our bodies that make us feel like we need to change ourselves and cause us to think negatively, so when I saw Dries Van Noten's Spring 2011 line everything clicked. I realized denim is not going anywhere, but denim can be used to accent or in ways that we never would have considered fashionable or appropriate for women, such as the baggy denim shown in the picture above. There have been tons of looks introduced portraying the comeback of denim tops and bottoms, denim dresses etc., and while that is all fun and exciting, i could not fully commit to jumping on the denim train until just now. In my opinion this right here, is the right and best way to do denim for S2011, but I guess we will just have to wait and see, I could be wrong!
