Daith Jewelry

Daith Piercing comes from a Jewish Culture. It is an ear-wear which goes through the cartilage of the inner side of your ears.

The Vagus Nerve is the longest of the 10 nerves that extend from your brain's bottom into your body. There are pressure points in one's ear. Daith piercings will apply constant pressure to the nerve. There are many claims that Daith can relieve headaches and migraines. Some even pierce for this purpose. There is currently no scientific evidence supporting this claim and it is hotly contested whether Daith can help with migraine headaches.

Daith piercing can be very painful and may take up to 6 months to heal.
Because cartilage piercings are closer to your hair, and more likely to pull, it is more susceptible to infection than lobe-piercing. In severe cases, infection by bacteria from piercings may lead to toxic shock syndrome or sepsis.

Healing Time & Price Range for Daith Piercing:

The cost of a daith piercing can vary depending on where it is done.

Starr Ellis, the proprietor of Nine Moons Piercing, and member of The Association of Professional Piercers (APP), says that cartilage piercings may take six to twelve month to heal. To ensure proper healing, it is important to have routine checks done by your piercer.

Aftercare of Daith Piercing

Daith can take a while to heal. It could take up to 12 months for your ears to fully recover. This is common with cartilage piercings.

Daith also requires extensive aftercare because of the high incidence of infections.

You should take good care of your new piercings, especially in the first month. Follow the instructions for cleaning. You should not sleep on your piercings the first few months to prevent them from getting worse.

1. Clean Daith every day

  • Wash your hands before handling jewelry or the area surrounding your piercing.
  • Use warm, clean running water to rinse the area.
  • Use a sterile solution to spray the piercing. Use a wound wash solution, which is available at most pharmacies.
  • Use a gauze or paper towel to gently dry the piercing. Too much moisture can cause infection or discomfort.

2. Wait a few months before you change your jewelry

  • Many people need assistance in removing or putting jewelry in this area. Don't be afraid of asking a piercer for help.
  • If:
  • It's not painful at all.
  • Your piercing is normal. There is no swelling or reddening.
  • There is no liquid or crust produced by the puncture.

3. Do not touch or apply pressure to the piercing

  • Avoid touching, squishing or sleeping on a daith puncture to ensure it heals properly. The daith is very close to your ear canal so you should not place anything in there during healing. This will help prevent discomfort, pimples, or infection.

Side Effects Of Daith Piercing

  • Soreness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding

Ellis says that depending on your anatomy, pain tolerance and pain rating, daith piercings can range from 3-7.

Measurement of Daith Jewellery:

The most commonly used gauge in daith-piercings is 16 gauge (approximately 1 mm thick). There are many exceptions and your piercer might have used a different gauge. You will need to ask your piercer what gauge they used. A majority of daith piercings can accommodate a hoop that has an inner diameter between 8mm (5/16") and 10mm (just under 38").

The gauge is the measurement of the thickness of the jewelry. Most likely, this measurement is given in millimetres. A calliper and a micrometre are required to accurately measure the gauge at your home. Without either one of these tools, you cannot accurately measure the thickness of your jewelry. A gauge card is the best way to estimate your jewelry's thickness.

Because the differences between gauges for body jewelry are so small, it is impossible to measure the gauge with a ruler. You would see almost identical results if you used a ruler to measure 18G, 16G and 14G. You would know the approximate lengths of 18G, 16G, and 14G if you used a ruler.

Your best option is to have your piercer measure you. You should also tell your piercer the dimensions of any jewelry that is attached so they can help determine if the piece will fit.

A piece of jewelry you already have can be measured to see if it will fit in your daith. You can also measure your piercing by measuring a piece of jewelry that is already in your daith piercing.
