Captains of the Fashion Industry- Gurus in DenimAdriano Goldschmied- Gap- Diesel- AG- GoldsignJerome Dahan- Founder of Citizens of HumanityLocation: Harris Hall- USC campus- Los Angeles Ca.Tonight was a treat for anyone in the denim industry. Adriano Goldschmied ' the Godfather of Denim' shared with us, his esteemed background, how he got started and what put him where he is today. He is such a humble man and quite honestly when i met him for the 1st time I was surprised that he was so quiet and no nonsense. I had some preconcieved notion of who knows what!!His most prized ideas is his creation of the Jeanous Group. A business he founded to gather all the great minds in denim, from Design to Wash to Raw Materials- It was a House of Creativity. It was to be a holding of many well known brands such as : Katherine Hammnet & Replay to name a few. This man is the real deal!! His mind never stops creating. From his perspective: He says that 'Fashion is our dream- the way we present our style to other people". He says that we should put passion in what we do and energy into what we believe! Adriano feels in his opinion that California is the 'country' of Denim. He has complete control, he chooses the denim, he creates the washes, he designs the silhouettes, he chooses the hardware and when it all comes together he knows! He passes it to Sales to do what they do best, then he starts the process all over again.I get the sense his mind never shuts down! He says "creating denim is a part of my heart." What an absolute treat to hear his story tonight.Jerome Dahan is also a veteran in our industry. His background is from Guess, spent 9 years at Lucky, then went to be a co-founder of 7 For All Mankind. He left 7 FAM and went to start Citizens of Humanity. His inspirations throughout his tenure has allways been vintage Levis, Wranglers & Lee Denim. His main resource was an Amsterdam store called American Rag Cie founded by Mark Wertz. He is still good friends w/ Mark and continues to visit his store here in L.A to get the best vintage denim in town.Jerome spends long hours at the wash houses, even to the point of staying overnight just so he can see his ideas brought to fruition. This is a true jeaner!! He's always believed the wash & the fit are the most important components. That was his succesful motto at 7 and now at Citizens. Both Adriano & Jerome feel we must be more ecologically responsible. It is the responsiblity of the Denim Industry to take a stand and think of new ways to be more Green! They feel it is time to be in touch with the Green reality. Leaving less carbon footprints to the next generation. So rest assurd, these two denim guru's are well on the way to figuring out what they can do to make a difference for the planet. Theirs minds never stop - Adriano mentioned accomplishing a beautiful wash withOUT the use of water!!!!???? huh!! But yeah, that's what IM talking about!! :)
