Children love funky accessories like detailed pockets, bags, and jackets. Metal studs and original patterns and sewing is great. They want to look original and stand out. Don't always keep it simple! When the children want it, the parents will buy it!

I think you should use patch work. In india we have Tribal Applique-Patch work which is used traditionally on kids cloth. Children will love it. Mugdha

you can use different corsages of organdy, slub fabrics with each layer in different colors, make a plaid in different colors and use it for straps of dress or a blouse, do appliqué work of cakes with little highlights of hand embroidery onto it and can also appliqué some text. use stab stitch detail in colors around the neckline or hem. make baggy pockets, make french rose and french knots in embroidery. you can also
But make sure any thing that you use on the garment can you can grab in your hand should be securely attached for safety concerns. use different laces. Use fabric likes spot embroidery dobby, self dot dobby, textured cotton slubs, light weight chambray. you can also make garments use different prints together. try patchwork of different colorful fabrics, make a blanket of the same and then use this blanket to make different silhouette.

you may want to also post your question in the forum or better yet in the kids fashion group.
