From ‘Well Jel’ to the famous Vajazzle, The Only Way Is Essex is known for starting off a bizarre new fashion trend or two. The reality TV show, also known as TOWIE, has started off a couple of trends since first airing in 2010 and it makes us wonder how far people would actually go to copy their idols.
One of craziest trends we have witnessed from the famous Essex based show is from Joey Essex who tried to make ankle watches, aka ‘swankles’, happen. Yes that’s right, wearing a watch on your ankle. The TOWIE star even took to twitter to tell his fans it was his new ‘thing’ which he was hoping would catch on. Unfortunately for him, the ankle watch trend didn’t quite go global.
It is not as though you can actually read the time when your watch is firmly fastened to your ankle so it must but purely for the ‘fashion’ aspect of it. From this incident in August last year, it made us wonder if the accessories we wear are primarily for show and not practicality. Lady Gaga is another star who loves to start new trends and her bizarre footwear choices have certainly caught on in the fashion world. From her sky high platforms to her heel-less shoes, the Gaga is so eager to draw attention that she manages to do it quite painfully. High street stores are now coming up with replica versions of Gaga style shoes that aren’t quite as extreme in height. Surely this style of footwear should come with some kind of safety warning?
