I got so incredibly lucky because not only did I find 2 matching identical dresses but the real story is they had never been worn.  Now is that lucky or is that lucky???  I have from the get go loved Bill Blass so I would be foolish to walk away from these 2 UltraSuede dresses with belts and pockets in pristine condition.  Blassport was introduced in 1972 just shortly after the world discovered the UltraSuede fabric.  The list of powerful women that LOVED Bill Blass is endless; The Duke of Windsor, Marilyn Monroe, Happy Rockerfeller, Jacqueline Kennedy, Candice Bergen, Barbara Walters, Anjelica Huston, Mary Tyler Moore & Barbra Streisand.  His beaded evening gowns, at $5,000, were among his best sellers in the early to mid 80′s.  When asked why his clothes were so expensive Blass replied, “I’m an avid believer that we have to have clothes made in this country.  Therefore we pay more money, the cost of labor and fabrication is what makes the clothing expensive.’ Bill Blass helped put Adolfo into business with $10,000 of his own money, it should be obvious to almost anybody that no designer has more profoundly influenced American life.  More than Ralph Lauren, more than Calvin Klein or anyone else who came along later, he changed the status of designers.  Basically we have to thank Bill Blass for making American fashion respectable.  So yes when I see vintage Bill Blass second hand, I grab it because I realize the importance of his legacy.  I’m Daniel Troppy your vintage luxury curator!
