being southern...

i heard somewhere that southerners are some of the most...let's say....fashionably handicapped people around.  i'm southern. i laugh at the comment a little because i agree...i live in decatur, ga.  i've lived in atlanta most of my life and the fact of the matter is this--the southerners do not do well fashionably!

the way i was raised, it was to dress your best at all times.  thing is, i was never comfortable in the clothes forced upon me.  growing up and being able to make my own decisions was the best thing that has ever happened to me!  not to say that all of my fashion decisions were the best, but i learned.  i learned more. and i'm still learning.  i love being comfortable. even on my wedding day, i wanted to be comfortable. i refused to let anyone tell me what was right or wrong.  i wore kung-fu sandals to my wedding.  my wedding dress was a sensibly comfortable black slip dress under a kimono...8843073479?profile=original

i repeat, for me, COMFORT IS KEY!!!

speaking of comfort though, i feel that i must emphasize that comfort does not equal lazy.  I am presently reading Isabel Toledo's book "Roots of Style" where she speaks on fashion having an effect on society.  i absolutely agree with that!  atlanta, decatur, wherever! georgia women are so fat and lazy here!  most of what i see is overweight.  house shoes outside!  plumber butt!  if southerners are that comfortable, is that why we appear the way we do here?  it drives me absolutely mad that when people hear that i'm from atlanta and i've been here my whole life, they start assuming things.  they say they don't believe me because i "don't look like i'm from here".  8843073863?profile=original                     no one looks like they're from atlanta because most of them are transplants!

i know that the fashionably inclined exists here and i will find them!  i will find them. i will photograph them!  i will post about them!
