BCBG, The Academy of Art, Max Azria and Tips

We came back from our 2011 Fashion Week bursting with excitement.  Simply said, the designers did impress.  The following is our little insight.

Sleek and chic are often used as buzz words. For this fall, they are anything but just buzz. When a designer can convey effortless simplicity in his or her design so that the clothing seems to float on the body even with a touch of geometrical structure, they have achieved sleek and chic in my book. These two words aptly describe all three of the shows Know Boutique experienced at this year's Fall Fashion Week.

The BCBG show was pleasant and exciting to watch as some of the designs screamed a 70's flare with an upscale twist.  According to the BCBG hand out, they describe their clothes as "pure lines fulfilling desire for simplicity while using a tonal palette and flashes of brights." Interspersed amongst the nude, black, and white pieces in the collection, these flashes of color played out in two different shades of blue, a red that reminded me of a maple leaf in its eye-catching orange-red hue, and a wine color that reminded me of my favorite Syrah.

Keeping in the same vein of simplicity with a lean on geometrical shape and tailoring, the Academy of Art University show was also a crowd pleaser.  One student played on the movement of a bird, another sought the "balance between tension and drapery", while yet another used her experience of a semester in New Zealand to inspire her knit pieces (and can I tell you, I would sleep in the grey knit sweater and scarf if I could - it was uber cozy just looking at it walking past me). The other students closing out the show wowed the crowd  with silks (taffeta and organza), wool dresses, lace knits, leather and wool.

The third show, the Max Azria show, was for us the right ending for our whirlwind trip.  The music pumped while the girls stepped out in one exquisite piece after another.  Ladies trust me you will find yourself wearing a piece or two of this designer's fall line or some variation.  As a carryover from the BCBG line, the clothes were in the usual suspects nudes, blacks, whites, caramels as the base; while, for flashes of color a beautiful teal, grey/silver, and that sumptuous red.

Look for the following when developing your 2011 Fall wardrobe:

- bodysuits, hooded wool tops and wool dresses

- long dresses in silk (taffeta, satin, chiffon), wool jerseys, jaquard knits

- tailored pantsuits/jumpsuits

- colors: caramels, nudes, navy blues, teal, and that quintessential orange-red

- purses: medium size clutch

- scarfs: big and bold knits

We want you to keep all these tips in mind and on the back burner. Focus now on Spring.  If you are still on the hunt for great additions to your Spring collection and are going/hosting an Oscar Party, take a look at Know Boutique's new arrivals below. We had you in mind!
