Banarasi Silk is produced primarily in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and is one of the finest forms of silk in the country. The intricacy of the weave, the luxurious aesthetics and the heaviness of the saree are only few of the many reasons why this saree is so popular throughout the globe.
Teal Green and Dark Blue Art Banarasi Silk SareeOne of the characteristic features of Banarasi silk sarees is the heavy usage of Persian motifs. Persian artistry is known for its ornateness and intricacy of detail. While blossoms and floral clusters are popular patterns, it is usually accompanied by a ‘Jhallar’ or a string of upright leaves. These motifs are created using gold and silver metallic threads, known as Zari. The extensive zari embellishments on the saree are what makes it one of a kind and elevates its worth in the market.

The saree is created on a power loom by three craftsmen who work on it simultaneously. Each of the three persons involved in the task have their own responsibilities that need to work in tandem for the saree to be as exquisite as its reputation says. While one weaves the silk threads, the other dyes the fabric while the third engages the bundle of silk.
