About Teen Modelling

Most teens who want to be a model have heard the stories about famous supermodels being discovered at shopping malls or airports. They dream of having a similarly overnight launch to stardom. But the truth is that only a tiny fraction of models are found through scouting, and even those that are have a long slog ahead to build their portfolios and get to the point where they’re earning enough to make a living, let alone reach celebrity status. It’s really important to have body confidence and this doesn’t mean be thin, it means you need to love the skin that you’re in, and be able to take direction from professionals. It’s not good being a wallflower when models are required to work in new places, with new people at almost every job.

Models need to be able to get on with people quickly, and the more the client or photographer likes you as a person, the more likely they are to want to work with you again. Most teen models make their livings by doing teen modelling photographic promotion shoots. A lot of these products may not be household names or have huge chic billboard motorway campaigns, but they will be printed in their thousands in catalogues, magazines, websites and other media. To be a successful teen model you need to have a really outgoing personality and a determined, hard-working attitude. The most important thing about being a teen model is to love the work that you’re doing; if you can say that, you’re bound to find success. Having a supportive mum or dad is really important as agencies and brands will ask them to be present whilst attending castings and photo shoots. Don’t think of them as cramping your style, they’re actually free security, information points and transport. Many parents take their children to a photographic studio and spend a lot of money having photographs taken without understanding how to best present their child in order to win bookings. Particularly when it comes to teens, some photographers and studios will try to make the child look older than they are – when in fact the opposite should be aimed for. Basically it boils down to not losing faith and having conviction in your talent.
