9 brides look back on their same-sex wedding day

The recent Supreme Court ruling was an incredibly welcome — and long-overdue — decision, allowing same-sex couples to legally marry in all 50 states. Since we're feeling the love, we asked a few brides to reminisce about their special day. Bellasdress.com

"My wife and I married in 2013 in the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore. A few months before our ceremony the terrible carpets covering the sanctuary floors, built in 1818, were pulled up to reveal the original hardwood floors. Moments after the minister said we were wife and wife, the entire congregation stomped their feet loudly against the floors, creating quite a roar. There's nothing like the sound of 200 of your friends and family erupting in such a sound as celebration for your love." — Laura

"We married last month at this great wedding venue in Chicago. My favorite moment was when my family (Dad, Mom, my sister and me) and Keely, my wife, got in a circle joining arms and sang along to "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston." — Meredith

"Although Jill and I had been living together for 20 years, I wanted a real wedding — with a white dress, flowers, and a band. So that's what we did. We had a church ceremony and a riotously wonderful reception at our favorite country inn. My father, who just turned 77, walked me down the aisle!" — Pamela

"Our souls were bound to one another the instant we met, but we had to wait a decade to make it official. We flew to New York in 2011 to legally marry. We had a peacock-themed wedding because the peacock symbolizes integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we show our true colors. On that day we showed our true colors." — Myrna

"Karol and I celebrated SCOTUS legalizing same-sex marriage by rushing to the courthouse in Harris County, Houston to get our marriage license. The Judge waived the 72-hour waiting period for couples who could show just cause. So we got married then and there — exchanging rings and vows we'd written while our friend videotaped the service." — Janet

"We eloped to New York in 2013. There was a snowstorm and the location for the ceremony and reception fell through, so we had to scramble for a backup. I never saw my wedding gown until the afternoon of the wedding when my mother showed up with it from Colorado! Now that SCOTUS passed the ruling, we're having a proper ceremony next month in California." — Robyn

"We'd been engaged for six months but hadn't put the ceremony details together. Then we planned a vacation to California — a state that permitted legal same-sex marriage. Jane and I contacted a friend who lived in LA and asked her to be our witness. She's also a photographer. The ceremony was gorgeous, spiritual, and legal. Add magical — whales nearby blew water and breached, giving their approval." — Cynthia

"A wedding couldn't be more spontaneous than ours. After the SCOTUS decision, I called my girlfriend and told her a mass wedding was happening in downtown Atlanta. There was no time for rings, but our parents made it as did a few close friends!" — Beth

"When I met my wife Elsa — yes, like Frozen! — at a mutual friend's wedding it was love at first sight. She proposed at a John Legend concert, in front of tons of strangers. The cost of a wedding was very prohibitive. So we entered and won a contest to marry on the Thompson Chicago pride parade float hours after LGBTQ marriages were legalized. It was amazing!" — Lynette
