Central Stage

“The ones to watch” category at London fashion week is always an exciting prospect. When fresh young talent step skilfully out of silky little chrysalis’ and spread their beautiful design wings it’s always special to watch. It is clear that British design is in safe hands **Phew**. February 16th 2008 saw the Central Saint Martins MA graduate fashion show. The show tent is always hot with hopeful expectation. The fashion pack gather as Central Saint Martins’ final collections have always been the breeding ground for designers of the future. It seems the show has become one of the most anticipated events of London fashion week. This year’s fashion lab was no different. There were clear winners **Drum roll** Tatiana Katinova was the class favourite with polished and sophisticated silhouettes. Her welcome curvaceous cutting distancing herself from the size zero debate. At last suiting, that suits women, not prepubescent girls. Saville Row salutes you.Last year Christopher Kane was hailed King of the Saint Martin’s castle and his career has reaped the benefits. Lets watch the new kids on the block flourish and prosper. My personal most wanted inventory includes Maria Francesca Pepe’s lady in red, and the knitted cosey pleasure that only cream woolliness can provide à la Simone Shailles. Simone’s chunky loopy cardigans were something unique. Watch out for some exciting future collaborations. These kids have the lottery ticket to a glittery, designer future. Clink those champagne flutes for the class of 2008.■ BexBella.
