6 Hair Care Tips That You Didn’t Know

When it comes to hair care you might think you know it all, but here’s 6 easy tips you can follow to improve the condition of your hair that you might not know, or perhaps have forgotten!

6 Hair Care Tips That You Didn't Know

1. Don’t wrap that towel round your hair!

It’s tempting to tuck that towel into a DIY turban and just let it dry itself, but doing this will is a sure fire way to turn your hair into a fuzzy frizz ball, which will be impossible to style. So, here’s what you should be doing: -

When you come out the shower use your towel to squeeze out as much moisture as you can and then allow your hair to dry naturally in the air for ten minutes prior to blowdrying.

2. Choose The Right Shampoo For Your Hair Type

It seems like a no brainer, but it’s easy to be tempted to reach for the cheapest bottle of shampoo on the shelf, or alternatively go for an all in one. But remember, there’s no such thing as normal hair! On the flip side you might be tempted by a glossy TV advert, but there’s no point going for that amazing moisturising shampoo that turns the models hair silky smooth, when you already have greasy hair.
Choosing the correct shampoo for your hair type will make it easier to style and improve its health.

It’s pretty self explanatory, but here’s a quick rough guide.

Dry hair – go for a deep moisturising shampoo
Brittle, damaged hair – go for a shampoo which contains protein to rebuild strength
Oily hair – go for a light moisture based shampoo, or a speciality shampoo for absorbing oil. Using a dry shampoo after shampooing is another great way to absorb that excess moisture.

3. Rinse Your Hair In Cold Water

Before you get out the shower, rinse your hair under some cold water. This will seal moisture into the cuticle layer and leave your hair feeling sleek, nourished and healthy.

4. Allow Your Product To Absorb Into Your Hair Before You Style

You’re probably used to spraying (or rubbing) in your styling product and then styling away. But, applying the product 10 minutes before you style will allow it fully absorb into the hair and make hair much easier to style.

5. Dry Shampoo Is Your Friend

As mentioned above, dry shampoo is great for absorbing excess oil, but it’s also a great way to stop your hair collecting dirt and pollutants as it will provide a protective barrier. Just apply a small spray of dry shampoo to your roots after washing and drying. Dry shampoo is also great for giving hair a quick and easy boost of volume.

6. Spray Down Hair if You Don’t Have Time To Shower

If you don’t have time to shower in the morning you can use a water spray bottle to damp down the top layer of your hair and then use a barrel brush to blow dry. This will give hair a quick volume boost and save you having to blow dry all your hair.
