What should I blog about is a really common question when people first start blogging or when writer's block sets in. And to be honest there is no single answer here as every blog is different.

If you wanted to oversimplify the answer we could say you can blog about anything!

However, there is a catch to this, because if you write about anything you may fall into a trap of either attracting no visitors or worse yet losing your current visitors by blogging about something disengaging or irrelevant. This will result in a very unsuccessful blog and you will find yourself wasting your time creating and submitting your blog posts.

However fear not, by following these 5 simple tips you will be able to ensure that you have plenty of great content to create quality blog posts and you will be setting your blog up for success!

Identify The Purpose of Your Blog

The best way to answer the question of what should I blog about is to take a step back and uncover what are you trying to achieve, ultimately - What is the purpose of your blog?

Interactive post, Why do you want to blog in the first place? There must be a purpose or theme for your blog. What is it that you are providing your readers with? Once you can answer this question you will have a better starting point for your blog posts.

The trick is to keep the majority of your posts relevant to the purpose of your blog. This way your readers will become accustomed to what your blog is about and they will know what to expect each time they come back. This way your blog will be consistent and you will be seen as a reliable blogger.

Identity Who Your Audience Are

The next thing you need to do is understand who your target audience will be. Who will find your blog's purpose or theme interesting? These people are your target market for your blog and you need to tailor your blog posts and overall blog content for these people.

This step is very important as it will determine the language, tone, and structure of your posts.

For instance, if your target audience is teenagers then you would not use complicated language that would require a dictionary to understand as teenagers will not relate to this and will leave your blog halfway through reading your posts (if they even make it that far!)

Once you know who your audience is it will be much easier to tailor your writing style to suit them and be attractive to them. As an example, content written for 40-65-year-old fishermen will not be very engaging to 18-26-year-old party goers.

 Provide Value

Your blog posts need to have value.

In the end - what is in it for your readers to come to your site and read your posts? You need to provide them with some sort of value. It could be education, entertainment, giveaways, or some content that they cannot find elsewhere. If you are providing information that can be found elsewhere then what value can you offer that others are not offering?

Each audience will find value in different things so you need to know your audience to know what is of value to them and then provide it!

Make it Interactive and Engaging

The most successful blogs are interactive and engaging. Readers are encouraged to leave comments and other readers may respond to these comments creating an interactive environment.

Engaging blogs will not only encourage readers to come back but will also ensure that they invite their friends to check out the blog. This is great - social sharing of your blog posts can make them go viral and make your reader count increase instantly. As long as you are providing them with a reason to come back related to the purpose of your blog then you will find success.
