Check out the rules shared below to help you in identifying the fake pearls.

1.        Luminous Quality: If your pearl necklace has real pearls, then its luminous intensity will be little higher. Moreover, they reflect the light well. You will not find any such luminosity in the imitated pearls. It will be flatly colored.

2.        Uneven Surface: Real pearls only have bit gritty-like surfaces. The presence of layered jewel structure makes its surface uneven. On the other hand, fake pearls have completely smooth surface. Touch it to your teeth. If you get a gritty feeling, then the pearl is real. This kind of test is known as Tooth Test.

3.        Drill Holes: In real pearls, the hole is drilled straight from both the sides so that it meets at the center point. Generally, the hole is made very small. It’s because a big hole can bring down the price of the pearl. The price of a pearl jewelry depends mainly on its weight. So, bigger the hole, lesser the price. But, fake pearls have big holes.

4.        Shape: Most of the times, the real pearls are not exactly round in shape. Contradictorily, the fake pearls are. If you see a pearl necklace in a shop that is perfectly round in shape, be sure it will be quite pricey. Similarly, the size of one pearl vary from another, which is not the case with the fake ones.

5.        Setting: Necklaces made of real pearls only have knots in between them. However, no such knots will be there in necklaces composed of faux pearls. Platinum, silver, or gold are, generally, the settings of real ones. Moreover, their clasps are composed of 14KT or 18KT. Sometimes, platinum are also used to make the clasps of these necklaces.
