5 Signs Your Jewelry Is in Need of Repairs

You wear your jewelry every day. Whether it’s a pair of diamond earrings that are your go-to for work or a gold necklace that you only break out on special occasions, each piece holds a different meaning for you. Because you wear your jewelry so often, it’s important to know when it’s time for repairs. Here are 5 signs that your jewelry is in need of some TLC.

Your Jewelry Is Discolored

If you notice that your jewelry is looking dull or has lost its luster, it may be time for a professional cleaning. A qualified jeweler will have the tools and knowledge to clean your jewelry without damaging it.

The Gemstones Are Loose

If you can move a gemstone around with your finger, it’s definitely time for some jewelry repair. Loose gemstones are not only unsightly, but they can also fall out completely if they’re not properly secured.

The Prongs Are Bent or Broken

Take a look at the prongs that are holding your stone in place. If they’re bent, broken, or missing entirely, it’s time to get them fixed before you lose your stone entirely.

There’s Visible Damage

Whether it’s a crack in the stone itself or a deep scratch in the metal, any visible damage should be addressed as soon as possible to prevent further damage down the road.

It Doesn’t Fit Like It Used To

If you notice that your ring isn’t fitting quite like it used to, chances are one of the causes is an improper sizing job (a common occurrence when people size their own rings at home). Bring it to a professional jeweler to have it sized correctly so that it’s comfortable to wear again.

Wearing jewelry is a great way to add a personal touch to any outfit, but it’s important to take care of your pieces so that they last for years to come. If you notice any of the above signs, bring your jewelry to a qualified jeweler for repair as soon as possible!
