  1. The birth stone for people born in the month of April is diamond. An amazing reason for every lady out there to ask the gift of fine jewellery from their better halves.

  9. The trading and collection of diamonds goes back to 4th century BC and it started in India.
  10. During ancient times Hindus believed that the wearer of the diamond could be protected from dangers and it was also used in the eyes of the statues of their deity.
  11. Different cultures of the medieval age believed that diamonds if worn during the time of battle gave more courage and diamonds were studded into the armour of some kings when they rode in the battle.
  12. In ancient time’s diamond were used for curing ailments like fatigue and mental illness since it was thought that it has healing properties.
  13. Beginning in the early 1400s diamonds were mainly sourced from India and were traded in European trade centres. Later in the 1700s the world’s major source of diamonds became Brazil. This changed to South Africa in the late years of 1800s when a colossal diamond mine was found in South Africa.
  14. The biggest diamond to be discovered till date is called the ‘Cullinan’. The weight of the Culinan is 3106 carats or 1.33 pounds and it was found in South Africa in the early 1900s. This diamond was then cut into 109 pieces out of which 100 were small and 9 were large. You can see the three largest diamonds of these 109 pieces in the London tower.
  15. It was in 1477 when Archduke Maxmillian of Austria gifted Mary of Burgundy the first ever diamond engagement ring. It was a gold ring with an M letter described in the form of diamonds.
