Oops! Jacqueline, I left my comment for you in my comments...! The economy sucks for fashion in Montreal right now, try maybe teaching. I am a Phenix so I am always going no matter how freaking hard it gets... my advice, follow your heart. Montreal is a beautiful place, you would love it here plus you have a friend!

hey Jacqueline,
I hope you enjoy your trip in India.The part you are visiting is the southern region of India. Known for its textile,specially karur ,Tripur places like things.
Now as a female tourist keep few things in mind,here in western countries specially in western countries we smile when make an Eye contact.But don't do that in India specially with men.Don't take any sort of favors like lift ,going out for party eating with them and most important when ever you go out with friends for a drink make sure you are around when the drink is made or served.Keep your eyes open and take taxi and other mode of transport either from hotel were you are staying or from registered agency .Always note down the taxi number.

And now coming down to your supplier place.Look around well in his factory ,look into his strength and weakness .Make out your chart on it ...don't go buy words.He will say he do anything under the sun .but look around and then take your decision.
