Working in the fashion industry....

I am currently a college student majoring in Finance/ Marketing, I hope to one day work in the fashion industry as either a fashion publicist or a buyer but i didnt neccessarily wanna major in a fashion related major or go to a fashion school because i dont want my degree to limit me only to fashion, but the question is am i headed down the right path with my current major????
