what type of smartwatches we needed?

Watches deliver smartphone notifications, fitness features, apps and more to your wrist, allowing you to leave your phone in your pocket, without missing important alerts.

Currently, the Apple Watch (starting at $349) is our favorite smartwatch. It offers a range of design options, support for Siri and Apple Pay, and a heart-rate monitor.

If you're looking for longer battery life, check out the Pebble Time Steel (starting at $249), which lasts up to 10 days on a charge. It also features an intuitive timeline interface and a color E Ink display that's easy to read in direct sunlight.

Among wearable running Android Wear, the 2nd Gen Moto 360 is our top pick for its stylish design, which you can customize before you buy, and a unique live dials feature that adds functionality to the watch faces.

The Samsung Gear S2 we tested offers good email handling and an innovative twisting bezel, but didn't make our best list because its proprietary platform has a very limited app selection.
