Off the beaten path.

I am actually trying to mesh a background in anthropology with fashion. I love the idea of fashion as an aspect of individual cultures as well as the human culture that binds us all together. I am looking for opinions on how to get a good resume together to gain a footing in the industry with little actual fashion experience. In my personal opinion the two areas work so well together because fashion is such an old human invention and it is so deeply connected to our idea of our own unique identity while at the same time connecting us to the wider world. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Additional info: I am currently a junior cultural anthropology major. I would like to intern somewhere to gain a foot in the door and I feel as though my background will be best suited in publication like writing or photography. I am an avid photographer and my only real fashion experience that meshes these two areas was a photo-ethnography on religious fashion. I have not taken any fashion classes yet but I read magazines and books on the subject in my free time. I am also not sure if my school will allow me to take classes in the fashion curriculum but I do have an advising session set up for next week to ask.

How do I give a better understanding of how my academic background will work within this industry? What advice can you give to help distinguish my resume? I am attempting to revamp my entire career after having spent half a decade in public health so I have very little to put fashion wise on my resume now and only a year left until graduation. Can I get enough experience in one year to help get me at least an interview?
