How to start a clothing company?

Hello everyone, I know this question has been asked many times before, but bare with me! My goal: Start a website to sell shirts. Sell my shirts to dept. stores. Then, in the future, open my own stores. I know the website aspect and designing aspect. Questions: How do i get my shirts produced. By factorie? How to choose? Do i just start calling diff. factories? Will they produce small quantities while I get started? Do I have to get my company registered legaly? Do I go to fashion shows? I basically want to know a simple layout of steps on how to go about getting my company started. Much of what I read talks about going to fashion school and have a financial back-up. I don't believe any of those are relavent to my situation. I am not applying for jobs so don't need to impress anyone with a degree. I am starting small so don't need much capital to get started. Any help is greatly appreciated!
