Romantic lace is a huge trend for 2012. It would be a lot of fun to start with an unadorned wedding dress in a very flattering silhouette and then embellish it with lace. There are quite a few ways to go about this. For a dress with very clean lines and no waist detail, it would look incredible to wrap a piece of wide lace border around the waistline of the gown.

It would be especially fantastic done in a contrasting color to the gown so that the lace will really show up well. Black lace would be gorgeous on an ivory gown, for a modern yet slightly vintage style. Ivory lace on a white gown would be understated, but still noticeable. You can even layer a very thin belt over the lace to emphasize your waistline.

Another thing that you can do with lace to personalize your wedding dress is create a lace border around the hemline. Now that we are seeing new gowns with completely plain skirts, this is a beautiful possibility. (It would not work for a dress with any kind of gathering or other details on the skirt.) What an elegant timeless detail. Speaking of elegant, another pretty idea is to add a small lace cap sleeve to a sleeveless wedding lace dress. This works best when the gown already has a true armhole, such as a V-neck or scoopneck dress would. Since the royal wedding, lace sleeves of any kind are definitely a very hot trend for brides.

There are countless ways to add your own creative style to a simple wedding dress. The wonderful thing about doing that is it allows you to select the gown that is most flattering to your figure and affordable to your budget, without worrying about the details on it. You can add your own unique accents to any simple wedding gown to create a one-of-a-kind dress that you will love to wear!
