I'm a fashion photographer, I work for myself and the first thing I would impart on people trying to get into the industry is  to gauge your expectations. When you start out you need to be shooting as much as possible, but it probably won't be paid- so don't quit your day job, as you can't Produce great work if your stressed about money. Secondly, you have to be good, make sure you Do everything you can to be better, if you don't  Absolutely live photography- don't bother, it's A hard slog at times it's all about who you know. You yourself have to get out there and sell yourself Don't expect an agent straightaway, and if you don't Hear back from people (agents included) don't be disheartened. These people are getting slammed Everyday by a lot of people just like you- keep trying and don't take it personal-  just keep shooting! Money. Don't expect to be steven meisel or Annie  Over night.. These people have had the same slog you will probably have. Yes, luck comes into it too  But expect some struggle in-between the luck. You Might not get paid for months- so again, just keep doing what you love- shooting, and experimenting and location scouting, because as soon as you stop loving it you will fail. This also applies to hair and  makeup artists. It's an amazing, exciting industry to be a part of and working as a fashion photographer can make You feel like you have never worked a day in your life! Just remember the harder you work the luckier you'll be. henrykphoto.com
