Fashion software: how to learn how to master them?

Hi everyone, I did a course in pattern making for women clothes in 2001 and then work for a couple of years in the industry. Now I would like to start again...does anyone have an idea on how to get experience using Gerber Accumark, Photoshop, illustrator etc? Job and also work exerience vacancy all require the use of these kind of software...any advice on how to proceed? I can't even find any class to take. I would get the software but it's too expensive. I tried to download for free but it doesn't install on mac...what can I do?
