FASHION EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK - 2009

2009 FASHION INDUSTRY EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK -from Chris Kidd at StyleCareers.com This is Chris Kidd from StyleCareers.com. I'm writing to let you know that we recently surveyed over 275 fashion industry recruiters (employers and agencies) to get their take on employment for 2009. At the risk of being the bearer of bad news, please see below for an overview and visit our website for details (free). Thanks, Chris Kidd STYLECAREERS.COM 1. Has the current economic environment caused you or your clients to scale back hiring plans for the next six months? Almost 92% of respondents claim their hiring will be scaled back over the next 6 months. With only about 2% of respondents unsure, this seems to be a very definite downturn in hiring. How likely do you think layoffs are in the next six months at your organization, or if you are a recruiter at your clients' organizations? Almost half of respondents think there will be layoffs at their organization in the next 6 months. Visit http://www.stylecareers.com/2009employmentoutlook.asp for complete results. 3. Did your organization or your clients' organizations have layoffs in the last six months? Roughly 74% of fashion industry companies were affected by layoffs in the last 6 months. The unfortunate reality is that most people DO NOT know when this downward trend will stop; the number prove it. Visit http://www.stylecareers.com/2009employmentoutlook.asp for complete results. 5. Are you seeing an increase in the number of candidates applying for positions? No surprises here. Visit http://www.stylecareers.com/2009employmentoutlook.asp for complete results. 6. What trend do you see in salaries for new hires? Again, no suprises here. My guess is that we will have a slight deflation of salaries over the next 6-12 months. StyleCareers.com was chosen as the #1 source for fashion talent! Personal networking was #2.
