Eco-fashion Shows Celebrate Earth Day

Did you notice that Earth Day has become Earth Month? And why not! It’s pretty important that we treat our home planet with respect every day. One of the trends we’ve noticed is the growing number of “eco-fashion” shows popping up everywhere. Of course, the AirDye® team is all about green fashion and helping everyone understand the impact the fashion industry has on the enviornment.

Did you know that the textile industry is one of the leading users and polluters of water? Trillions of gallons each year are used to treat and dye fabric. Often leaving toxic chemicals behind to flow downstream. On top of the water use, mountains of fabric are thrown away each year by consumers and the manufacturing plants who get the color wrong or use wasteful patterns.

But, the movement to create a more sustainable fashion industry is gaining a foothold. If you’re up for a fashion show, here are a few to consider as you celebrate Earth Day.

Raleigh: Redress Raleigh 2011

April 15
The focus of this eco-fashion show is to promote wearable eco-fashion, and not some of the rather off the wall garments we’ve seen (like a dress made from candy wrappers). The designers here are using recycled or remanufactured fabrics and eco-friendly production processes. The show is at 8PM at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church. Details and tickets a on the Redress Raleigh website.
