the fall out from wall street has curbed the frivolous buying which people were engaging in prior to this year.
this 'recession' started 2 years ago.
i was doing design for a studio in manhattan, and i began to see print sales drop off, slowly.
the feedback at that time from the designers was that their budgets had been cut,
because the merchandise wasn't sellling at the retail level.
this was the 'tidal wave' i saw on the horizon back then.
what has happened currently in retail doesn't surprise me at all.
even the discount retailers are feeling it.

in a sense, the industry brought about its own demise, because of greed.
poorly made clothing at jacked up prices.
truly what justifies some of the price points?

what has happened is an interesting dynamic.
the retailer is slashing price drastically.
the consumer has the power at the moment.
just by waiting it out, the merchandise will be marked down to a sensible price point.
what the buyers will be doing is buying very selectively.
so instead of 100 pieces per door, they will be doing 100 pieces per 10 doors.

in making the item 'precious' they guarantee interest and sales.
if people feel that the item they want is only available for a limited time, they will be inclined to purchase when they see it.
this is what the stores wish for.

in new york city, i have seen stores..empty.
and for the first time i have seen retailers willing to take discounts as you walk out of the store.
ann taylor: i went to have a look at their new look.
as i was exiting the store, the manager came running after me and handed me a card which allowed a certain percebtage off price.
she was also willing to further reduce a dress i casually looked at.
never has this ever happened before.ever.

wisely d&g have lowered their prices for spring 2010.
i hope they set a trend.

because things really spiralled out of control as manufacturing moved offshore, but price increased drastically.

i work in this industry and i love it, but it has got to change.
I agree; the customer now holds the power and it will change over time.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and your opinions, I appreciate it and I am certain others will also.
It just show that shoppers now a days are become more careful in choosing what to buy they need those items who very good in quality yet very low in price. At Designer Clothes Online they slash their prices so that people can afford to buy the items they sell.
