Fashion Industry Network

The Fashion Industries Favorite Business Network ...

Ricardo Sinclair

Is this a good idea??

OK so here's the deal. I live in London, where there's about 20 billion people who work in the fashion industry. Yet I only know a select few. Would it be a good idea maybe to organise a fashion networking event in London. This enables not only me to get to know people, but obviously anyone else who turns up! I want to start an events & promotions company that specialises in organising promotional events for upcoming fashion designers. Does this sound like a good idea? Or is it just a waste of time? And I would need some help in doing this, so anyone out there who thinks they could be an asset to this little adventure CONTACT ME! :D

Sounds interesting.. If you do not know too many people in the fashion industry in London, how would you get the word out about the networking event? Do you have an advertising budget ...

Even with a good idea it is some times difficult to have your message reach an audience. For example, even on this fashion network we have been open for a few months but currently have under a thousand people. We are from countries around the world. My guess is that it would be even harder trying to round up a group for only one location such as London. However, if the proper amount of effort, I am sure you can achieve your goals.

If you are interested, you can experiment with first trying to round up a group of fashion industry people for an "online" community (I can help create a group on this site for "London"). After that group develops, you can then possibly work with the other members of the London Fashion Group to arrange the event that you wish to develop.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do...

Thanks for your reply. I've not really looked into it too much in terms of the networking event. It was really an idea that passed as I was writing the topic, but I will have to do some research and look into it. Living in London means of course that it will not be cheap, so I think it would have to involve selling tickets for somewhere along the lines of £8-£10 depending on how many people are looking to attend. When it comes to setting up the group, I actually setup a UK group. I didn't quite think of just narrowing it down to London at the time. I just wanted all the UK fashion industry people to be able to find eachother effectively. I think one problem with fashion in London is that there are a lot of fashion industry people out there and probably a lot of opportunities to meet these people but they are just not advertised enough for those who aren't so well known in the industry. I actually went through the members list today and was quite suprised as to how quickly I got through the whole list. There aren't many London people here, but hopefully as time goes on the site and fingers crossed the group will expand!

I think it was a good idea to create your group as United Kingdom rather then just London. As the site grows, maybe then it would be good to narrow down to London. For now, as you see we have just under 700 members on this site. So the number from London must be very small. This network has been online for around 6 months. At this rate, we should have a big London group in approximately 100 years... Well, hopefully we will not have to wait that long.. Thank you for your patience as the site grows. Hopefully in time we will have more members from London. Maybe we should contact some fashion schools in the UK. Maybe some of the young designers (students) would be interested in joining your UK group.

That was my line of thinking. Once I have UK, i'll narrow it down to London. And I'm more than willing to wait. Rome wasn't built in a day after all! I'd be more than willing to help give you some contact details of some fashion schools in the UK! There's plenty around I'm sure! London College of Fashion being the main one!

Thanks.. I also have a list of fashion schools at my Apparel Search site. Hopefully in the future, I will have time to contact the schools. Currently, I am sinking in several projects. Eventually, I will get a chance to try and spread the word about this network site (and the United Kingdom group...).
