Cutbacks, Bankrupted, reducing staff, WOW!!!
We all know that the Fashion Industry is very strange indeed! And it's truly a rollercaster industry. The companies with the money, connects and personnel and especially the goods to sell - survive in this industry -
I had spoken of being a Independent Fashion Coordinator for Weekenders. Well, I thought I had found my nitch. I was truly loving the part of working the business at my own pace and being able to put smiles on customers face from my presentations and/or them discovering different ways to wear the clothing. It was exciting - yes, I say WAS!!!!
Weekenders "The Clothes You Love to Live In" has ceased to operate after over 20 years of providing quality, comfortable, machine washable, business to casual to athletic clothing to it's customers. BANKRUPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm depressed, but not totally distroyed because I hear not only them - but others are reducing staff, closing stores, scaling down!!!! The motto was correct - I love the clothes - great comfort
How does this affect us as new designers trying to get into the industry???? A thought I've asked myself as I look inside to see "NOW WHAT!" Definitely the applications I've submitted to the industry will probably get pushed further back because of local talents needing jobs!!!! Augggggg! Not to loose hope that one day either in the industry as an employee or on my own!!!!!!!!!! Must stay focused - yet stay connected to what's happening!
How do we as small designers/business owners help turn this around - we know there's a need for clothing, accessories, shoes, etc. We know that people will continue to buy - no matter how bad it appears - but how do we capitalize in our area of expertise and stay afloat?
Much thinking to do - as if I didn't already have a lot to think about!
Well it's off to create SALES for my Weekenders - to at least recover my investment!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe God's way of saying - Stay In Your Lane - do JaJa - and watch it grow!!!
