The world of fashion is a fascinating, colourful place where beauty and taste are in the first place. The life of top models, fashion designers and other people connected with this industry may seem easy and bright, an endless party so to say. However, this is not so. The world of fashion is a cruel world, world full of gossips, intrigues, pain and tears. Yes, every medal has two sides.

But, let us look closer at the people who establish trends, have an influence on us and especially on our clothes. One of such people is a famous French designer Yves Saint Laurent.

He enjoyed his greatest popularity and influence on the fashion trends in the 60-70-ies of the 20th century. He is the person who introduced the elements of men’s clothing in women fashion. In the 1960-ies, some contemporaries could criticize women in pants, leather jackets, tuxedo suits or very high boots, which reach the thigh, but they just followed the trends set by Yves Saint Laurent.

Born in the Algerian city, he grew in a family of lawyers and his fate was to receive the same education. But we should be grateful to his mother who once noticed that her tender, weak son had an inclination to design profession. From that time, she became his faithful companion and adviser who made every effort to help him become the famous and well-known designer.

At the age of 19 Yves left Algeria and together with his mother moved to Paris. There he took part in the competition of young designers and won the first prize. It is interesting that at the same contest young Karl Lagerfeld got the first prize, too.

After that, Yves was working in Christian Dior Fashion House. After his death, at the age of 21, Yves became the head designer of this fashion house. Then were the creation of several collections, military service and a set of nervous breakdowns. But he has the strong personality. Together with his partner Pierre Berge he founded his own fashion house Yves Saint Laurent YSL. His hardworking nature and a great talent brought him enormous popularity. He even become the first living designer to be honoured by the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a solo exhibition. There were also other awards in his life, but an awful disease ruined his health.

He died at the age of 72, but his contribution in the fashion industry is hard to overestimate. His life can serve as an example and inspiration for all talented people who want to become successful and famous.
