Yarns and Yards - Fashion Designing

After designing the most fun part of your business is sourcing the yarns and the getting the yards, the materials and the lengths!  Just as an artist gets his inspiration by a certain hue of the sunset, so does a designer.  Inspiration may come from the texture, hue or flow of certain fabrics.  And the designer will want to create a design that expresses his creative vision through that hue or flow of fabric.

Understanding fabric

You may already have an understanding about the various fabrics available.  You could add to your knowledge by visiting fabric markets and sourcing what kinds of fabrics are easily available and what prices.  Understand the textures and trims.  If the design is the soul of your collection the material is the body.  Different materials have different textures, hues and colours, weaves and prints.  Some fabrics stretch some don’t. When you create a design you will have to consider these aspects of fabric and select a fabric that will best express your design.  To understand fabric you could also work with a fabric shop, or visit fabric seminars, visit weavers societies, fabric factories and the like.  Until you understand what fabric you need for a certain design you haven’t finished designing.  There is a plethora of fabrics out there.  Fashion Designing Course helps you to gain good knowledge about the rates, requirements, and lead times before you finish designing your piece.  Fabric is a creative as well as a commercial element of your design business.
