Though sarees have taken a backseat over the trending cotton kurtis and tops, fashion designers have left no stone unturned when it comes to redefining cotton handloom weaves with most unconventional embroidery.

Let’s take a look at the conventional cotton sarees in a Bengali women’s closet:

  1. Crisp Taant Saree

Starched crispness of this beautiful handloom weaved in parts of Murshidabad and Bangaladesh are most celebrated attire. Cotton threads of this saree are light and somewhat transparent. Hence, makes it efficient wear during summers.

  1. Dhakai Saree

Golden thread work on white and red bordered cotton saree with temple thread designs all over the body is what is worn by women while offering Pushpanjali to Godess Durga.

Dhakai Zamdani sarees are weaved in Dhaka Bangaldesh. But golden thread embroidery all over the border brings out the culture of a true Bengali woman.

  1. Kota Sarees

Kota dori cotton sarees are patterned weave of cotton and silk thread in a square checked pattern. These took its origin from Rajasthan and became widely spread in Kolkata too.  

  1. Sambhalpur and Bomkai Saree

These are sarees from Orissa.Cotton sarees of this pattern have intricate thread embroidery in the pallu, which makes the saree special by itself.

But Bomkai sarees have a slightly different pattern with dots on the saree body. These sarees are available in cotton and saree. Specialty of Bomkai saree is that it’s an outcome of ikkat and embroidery interwoven with each other.

  1. Chanderi Cotton Saree

Such type of cotton sarees have preferably a shimmer to it, adding up to your eloquent personality.

With Zari woven on it and some textured patterns of embroidery make the look of the saree more surreal and elegant.

Though cotton sarees are difficult in draping and maintaining, but has a special charm of its own. It brings out the femininity and sophistication in an individual, which makes people look at you with respect.
