Who Is Katie Monster, Fashion Month’s Breakout Street Style Star?

Katie Ruensumran, better known by her moniker Katie Monster (@katieismonster), had a breakout fashion month thanks to Vogue’s resident street style photographer, Phil Oh, who captured her several times in both London and Paris. She first made an impact thanks to her signature bow-adorned top bun, a strong brow, and a ruffled white Simone Rocha dress in London. Later on, she was spotted wearing a highlighter-yellow Christopher Kane sweater and a silver pleated skirt, and in Paris, a full Comme des Garçons anime-print dress.

While Ruensumran might be a new face on the scene, she has long had a love for fashion. She was born in London, but grew up in Bangkok, and moved back to her birthplace 15 years ago to study womenswear at Central Saint Martins. “I was making T-shirts to sell at flea markets,” she says of that time, “but I realized I didn’t want to go into a design direction.” She later became a writer and a consultant, and now focuses on developing emerging Thai labels, such as Dry Clean Only.
