Many beauty bloggers have thought about launching a small makeup line. It is an exciting idea, but you have to be prepared before you do so. You have to make sure that you are ready to present a unique product that people are going to love. The following are a few things you should pay attention to before you launch your brand. You need to find a place for it in the marketplace.

Branding

You are going to have to put some effort into your overall branding. Those who can may want to hire a professional to help establish a brand, which is something your audience can connect to. Who’s your target audience? Taking serious steps to brand your company and makeup effectively will make it easier for your customers to remember who you are and what your company stands for. This brand should reflect you and your following. Think of the audience, price point, how niche is the audience? Are you going to go for a fun and loud product or something minimalistic and neutral?

Manufacturing

You are launching a makeup company so you are going to need to know how you are going to make your products effectively. This is where a good manufacturing company comes into play. You’re going to need the formula for each product so that the manufacturer can make enough products to meet demand. Skipping this step can actually overwhelm your company so much that you may not be able to meet demand, and there is almost nothing worse than failing to meet your customer’s demand. This can be overwhelming if it’s your first time making your own product and sourcing. Say, you’re a New York based influencer. You may want to look up at a NJ chemical company to select what you want to source and manufacture.  This way you can have a hands on approach and see the facilities yourself. Independent brands thrive when the influencer has a hands on approach instead of slapping their name on a product.  

Formulation

Speaking of formulation, it may be a great time to focus on the formulation of each product. Starting this early gives you enough to make changes if the result of your formula is not exactly what you wanted. We live in an age where millions of people will destroy the product, swatch it, and tell their opinion. It is important to ensure that each ingredient within the product does not cause any side effects, which you can test by starting on your formulation early in the process.  You want to make sure your claims are correct, your color is pigmented, and it’s something you are proud of. Keep in mind that more make up users are starting to pay attention to ingredients, so getting this part right is vital.

Quality Control

Once your products are being produced to match the needs of your customers, you can start testing each batch for quality control. Ideally, your manufacturer should be able to take this step for you, but that is not always the case. Quality control is something you are going to have to continue to do because mistakes can be made at any time. An easy mistake is when metallic are sprayed on a palette instead of part of a formulation. You want to make sure all the batches are homogeneous. Mistakes you do not catch can hurt your brand and customers, which can be devastating for a young company like yours. They’ll end up being what reviews focus on. It’s better to wait and have something you are proud of than rushing a product.
