What should Men Wear to a Winter Wedding?

Recently, Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s darling sister Arpita’s wedding became a much talked about affair. So, what did the star himself wear to this glitzy event? Since the wedding was planned at the beginning of winter, the evergreen Khan was spotted in a jet black band gala coat, paired it with a traditional pagdi, looking nothing short of dapper. And now that this high profile wedding has set the ball rolling for the upcoming winter wedding season, we look at some dressing options for men who wish to stand out at such events. There are quite a few choices, including a combination of men’s sweaters, format suits and jackets online to choose from.

Suits and Blazers are Always in

If it is really cold and the occasion is strictly formal, a suit or a classy blazer, paired with the right trousers will always do the trick for you. You can wear it with a dress shirt in a glossy fabric and a bright tie. Since it is winter time, dark colours should always be preferred over lighter shades. Your choice of fabric would depend on how cold it actually is. If it isn’t that chilly, choose a lighter fabric that will be keep you warm and comfortable. A glossy finish should be preferred over matte.

Keeping it Simple with Dress Shirts and Pants

Do you have a pair of dress pants that you think would be befitting for the occasion? It is fairly easy to plan an ensemble around it. Just indulge in some online shopping and get yourself a dress shirt and a tie to go with it. If you wish to keep it simple and the chill has not yet set in, this could be just right. Depending on whether it is a daytime wedding or an evening celebration, choose colours appropriately. Darker shades are more suited for evening time celebrations. Since it is a happy occasion, it is always advisable to choose bright and vibrant hues. If you are attending an event during the day, light and bright shades should do just fine.

Overcoats and Sweaters are Hugely Popular

The above ensemble of shirt, pant and tie could be formalized by using an overcoat or a pullover. In fact, cashmere men’s sweaters with V necks could work well with a suit. But if it is way too cold, you can actually pick up a suitable jacket online and pair it with your choice of woolens. Wearing a jacket is beneficial because you can remove it if it gets too warm for comfort. Just make sure you have chosen your men’s sweaters carefully. Once the jacket is gone it becomes your outermost layer!

What if you Prefer Ethnic Wear?

An ethnic ensemble could do wonders for a winter time wedding. If it is a light chill, one of those heavy achkans or kurtas should suffice. Most of them are made from heavy fabrics and have a warming effect. However, if it is slightly colder and you have spent a ransom preparing an embroidered kurta for this occasion, covering it up with woolens is not an option. Thermal inners could work well in such cases. You have superfine thermals available these days that keep you really warm! You can even put them under your trousers or churidaars to keep your legs comfortable. If inners are not an option for you, pairing your Indian attire with a classy shawl draped across your shoulders could provide for a very different look, while keeping you adequately warm.

Spare a thought for your footwear as well. Winter dressing needs covered footwear, like jootis or formal shoes. If you don’t have a good pair, consider buying one while you are picking up your jackets online.
