When you see people at the checkout counter of your favorite market putting their groceries into cloth bags instead of the plastic bags the grocer offers you are seeing an example of a tote bag.

Before you start shopping for a bag you need to decide how the bag will be used, and what items you will normally carry in it. That will help you choose the right size bag.

Think of where you will be using the bag before you choose the material. If the bag will frequently be carried outdoors like toddler bags, or beach bags are, then you want to get one made from a material that resists stains, and is water proof. You also want to choose a bag that is made of light materials so the bag will not become too heavy once you get it filled.
