Types of drug detox

The detoxification process is often considered to be challenging, irrespective of the thing you want to get rid of. However, the process is even more difficult in case of drugs because it is more than just a disease. Drugs get into our body and start affecting different parts of our body. It is important to understand that drug detox is not a process where you look for dual diagnosis treatment centers and let the experts work on you. Relying on an expert is important, but you also need to understand that drug detox can be an unpleasant experience, and the individual might have to face serious withdrawal symptoms.

However, the good thing is that there are different ways in which an individual can detox from the drug. Check out some of the types of drug detox below.

1.    Medical detox:

This is the most commonly known option where the addict stays at a facility and is thoroughly monitored for withdrawal symptoms. Medical professionals provide medications, whenever necessary, to lessen the effect of withdrawal. In this case, the patient receives mental health support.

2.    Rapid detox:

This is an inpatient procedure wherein the addict is put under anesthesia, and the process of flushing the drug out of the system begins. While rapid drug detox can help in avoiding severe withdrawal symptoms, one cannot guarantee that the withdrawal symptoms will not reoccur. This might not be a viable option for many because it is an expensive procedure.

3.    At-home detox:

If an addict has an adequate amount of support at home, they can even opt for at-home drug detox. In this case, the patient undergoes the process of detoxification in their home. While this provides the patient an option to enjoy the comfort of their home, it can be a risky option because if they are left unsupervised, the situation can worsen. If you opt for at-home detox, make sure that you have a medical professional present at your home to help you with the process.

4.    Natural detox:

This is one for those who feel they can do their part honestly and have an adequate amount of self-control over their urges. Here, the addict will have to go through the withdrawal process all by themselves. This involves using supplements and other nutritional approaches that can help in detoxifying one’s body. In this case, there is a need to incorporate activities like yoga, acupuncture, and even massages. Along with this, you can even look out for spiritual support that will help you in keeping yourself away from the negativity of drugs.

Again, this needs a lot of confidence and self-control. If you feel you’re not made for this category, you need to look out for other options available.
