Whether you are bored or just trying to kill time, Teen Patti is a great game to play. For those who aren’t aware, let me tell you that Teen Patti is one of the most commonly played card game in India. However, its popularity has spread so far that you can see many players indulging in it throughout Asia.

Teen Patti is often denoted as the “Indian Poker” and has fascinating additions of variations each year - making winning and losing completely fun, given that you haven’t gone the Yudhisthir’s way (well, the bitter truth is that there are many cunning Duryodhans out there).

Considering that you know the game rules already, here are a few variations to play to make the best of this game. And people who don’t know how this is played, this may be a laid-back way to participate in all the fun – by simply suggesting your expert variations and watch how they play!

1. Odd Sequence

Rather than general sequences that will be Jack-Queen-King or Ace-2-3, try using alternate cards for declaring a sequence: Jack, King or Ace, 3, 5 or 9. People who have awful luck with playing straight cards may win this one!

2. High-Low

Note that the card with the smallest value becomes the card with the greatest value, and consecutively, the card with the greatest value shifts to being the smallest. Say, for instance, you have drawn 2 of Spades, 2 of Diamonds, and King of Hearts.

Your King will have less value when compared to your set of 2's, which are the greatest of their kinds. Mix it further by adding an ideal of 5 to the mix. Now deal with 5 cards, eliminate 2, and choose your highest & lowest.

3. 369 & one-eyed Jack

These cards (Jack of Hearts & Jack of Spades are also called one-eyed jacks) become jokers here. The other 2 Jacks (of clubs and diamonds) aren’t one-eyed. So, this means that it can cause a little confusion. But you can call certain colors of 369 jokers and declare others to be regular.

4. Red & Black

The idea here is to deal with 1 card in the center after dealing 3 cards to every player in the game. After each round, 1 fresh card is kept. If the card at the center happens to be red (diamonds or hearts), then the game will be played usually, with the card’s value declared as a joker.

Say, for instance, if the card at the center is a 7 of Hearts, then all the 7s turn out to be jokers. However, if it is black, the game depends on muflis (the cards with the smallest value will now become the ones with highest value).

Instance: A series of 2,3, and 5 will outrank an Ace trail. Probably, this is the ideal way to make sure that players remain in the game longer.

5. Folding Joker

Every player deals with 4 cards, and out of which, the last card remains separate and unseen from the other 3 cards. The 3rd card is a shown card, which serves as a joker for all.

For example, Person X has 6 of Spades, 7 of Hearts, and 9 of Diamonds (with 1 unseen card). And Person Y has 8 of Diamonds, 4 of Hearts, and 8 of Clubs. The jokers here are 9 of Diamonds and 4 of Hearts for all players. But the moment a player folds his or her cards, then, his or her unseen card previously becomes the joker. Gosh!

6. Maatha or The ol' card on the forehead

Every player gets a card here, and no player should look at it. Instead, they should stick it on their forehead. This way everyone can see all others cards, however, not what they actually have. Depending on the pure guesstimate about the card’s value, begin big. Well, this secret is awesome.

7. The Sudden Death

Now, this variation is ideally played in the end of a card session. Just distribute packs of cards equal to all players. Now, hold the cards between your thumb & ring finger. Keep dropping the cards until one player yells stop! From the remaining cards, pick a card with highest value that you’ve left. So, the player with the highest card wins!
