Even if your feet are initially healthy and you don’t have any inborn defects, this can change over time. Improper footwear may trigger a deformation of your feet. This is why it is so important to choose proper footwear for children. A growing foot needs support, fixation and adequate size. We all know that children grow very fast but buying shoes in bigger sizes for the future is not an option. The health of your child isn’t something you should save on.

This isn’t only relevant to children’s footwear. Even in adult age, a poor choice of footwear may affect the shape of your feet and cause their deformation that may result in pain while walking and inflammation of muscles and joints. There is a lot of shoe models that claim to be comfortable but in fact, are far from that. 

Below is the list of footwear that damages your feet from a long-term perspective and you should avoid wearing them all day long. You may be surprised to notice that this list has models that seem very comfortable and suitable for long distances. 

1. High Heels

Perhaps they are the most famous foot killers. The position they put your foot into is far from healthy. Footwear with high heels moves the center of foot’s gravity to its toe part. It’s easy to develop flat feet and heel spurs over time if the foot is exposed to such an imbalance of weight. It even affects your spine and causes degenerative changes in it.

2. Flat Soles

Such shoes are opposites to high heels and look like a pure benefit for your feet. But they are considered among the most dangerous footwear for your feet’s health. Flat soles make all the body’s weight push on your poor foot, making it flat. Some models of flat shoes are very open and need you to tense your toes to prevent them from falling off. This distorts your toes and joints over time. 

3. Platform Shoes

They seem to be a healthier and more comfortable alternative to high heels but it’s not so simple. They make you roll on your foot from the back to the front the whole time you walk in them. The thick platform prevents your feet muscles from functioning, forcing the ankles to do all the work instead. This causes a distortion in the feet and leg joints. In addition, it’s very easy to twist an ankle in such shoes.

4. Flip Flops

This popular footwear for the beach usually has an extremely thin sole. It has the attachment in only three points. This exposes the feet to impacts that destroy the health of the entire leg and feet in particular. The heels of your feet are at increased risk of damage when you wear such type of footwear. 

5. Sneakers

They look like sports footwear that are supposed to be comfortable and designed for hard strains but it’s only a style. Don’t ever try them for your sports activities! Their thick rubber sole flattens your feet and doesn’t let them breathe. This upsets the distribution of strain over your feet. They are especially dangerous if you try to go running in them.

Now you know what types of footwear are the worst for your feet and are better to be avoided. You should at least avoid wearing them all day long or for long walks.
